New Audi R8 in 2014
In an interview published this week-end, Michael Dick, Board Member and manager responsible for technical development at Audi, put forward the first information on the next generation of the Audi R8.
As announced to the next Audi Q7, the Audi R8 was the subject of a serious slimming diet. In all lose around 220 pounds in its structure compared to the current model, due to the use of a mixture of aluminum and carbon fiber chassis.
"We want the maximum weight reduction and maintain maximum rigidity," confirms Dick, confessing that more than meet targets for fuel economy, the decision to apply these materials is related to cost reduction.
The weight loss also extends the car's suspension, transmission and bodywork. Is expected to increase torsional stiffness 30%, improving the agility and maneuverability of the model. The Audi R8 promises, thus be lighter than the Ferrari 458 Italia and Lamborghini Aventator. The question is whether the model from Ingolstadt can have a weight less than the rival Porsche 911. The Audi R8 is in production since 2006 and this facelift, to be introduced in 2014, eanonce big changes, but for now, nothing is confirmed officially.
